INTJ Compatibility Chart: Relationships Guide

INTJs have strong values and high standards in every aspect of their life.

But not every person can live up to their personal expectations.

So, who can?

As an INTJ, I’ve learned that compatibility doesn’t always mean similarity.

And I’ll show you what I mean now.

Here’s a simple yet exhaustive INTJ compatibility chart, which should help you find out which MBTI most suits you.

Let’s dive straight in!

INTJ vs Other Personality Types: Compatibility Chart

INTJ is quite a peculiar personality type. And as such, it’s more compatible with some MBTI types compared to others.

Here is a chart that shows how well INTJ matches with different personality types, from most to least compatible.

INTJ & ISTJ

INTJ and ISTJ have many similar personality traits, which makes their connection harmonious.

Both of them rely on logic and rationality, even when dealing with emotions. What’s more, both have strong morals and prefer keeping feelings to themselves.

The main reason for contention between these two lies in their focus. Namely, ISTJ focuses on tiny details, while the INTJ personality type is all about the big picture. When having a discussion, it’s important that these two understand the point of view of the other one.

INTJ & INTP

These two personality types share their love for debating and breaking down ideas into tiny details.

There are many ways they complement one another very well.

INTJ respects an INTP’s logical consistency and different perspective on a certain problem. INTP, on the other hand, admires INTJ’s efficiency, focus, and ability to plan in detail.

However, it’s the plans that can cause problems in communication between these two types.

While INTJs are big planners, INTPs prefer being flexible and spontaneous. This can cause them to get on each other’s nerves. The solution would be to meet in the middle, but that’s easier to say than to achieve for both of them.

INTJ & INTJ

Who can understand an INTJ better than a fellow INTJ?

In a lot of ways, you could say these two are the perfect soulmates. They both share a love for knowledge, understanding, and improving skills.

They also understand each other’s needs to spend time alone.

However, this is not to say that two people with INTJ personality types don’t have their fair share of misunderstandings.

As you know, INTJs are very reserved and secretive. This may mean they’ll both suppress their dissatisfaction with one another until they burst at some point.

INTJ & ENTJ

Both personality types are driven by a thirst for knowledge, and they share many similar interests.

INTJ and ENTJ are similar on many accounts. This is also true when it comes to expressing their feelings, which doesn’t do them well. If hiding their dissatisfaction with one another for too long, it can lead to resentment.

While one is an introvert and the other an extrovert, these two can easily find the middle ground when it comes to social life. ENTJ can help INTJ warm up to being around people. On the other hand, INTJ can teach an ENTJ to also enjoy some time alone.

INTJ & ENTP

These two personality types are both direct, rational, and always open for discussion. They’re both very creative and visionary, so they can inspire each other.

INTJ can learn to expand its views and possibilities from an ENTP.

On the other hand, ENTP can find an INTJ to be helpful in actually putting their concept into an action plan.

ENTP and INTJ complement each other very well, but issues might arise from their different lifestyles.

For an ENTP, narrowing down possibilities feels suffocating. For an INTJ, on the other hand, fewer options mean a clear plan and direction.

INTJ & ESFP

Now, these are the exact opposite personalities.

And their relationship can be fruitful for both sides.

INTJ and ESFP can support each other’s development and push to be better. With ESFP’s adventurous spirit and INTJ’s great planning skills, they can guide each other into making better decisions.

However, their lifestyles tend to be quite different, which can cause issues.

ESFP prefers impulsiveness and flexibility. INTJ, on the other hand, like schedules and plans. It’s important for them to be considerate of each other and find the middle ground, so no one is left out.

INTJ & ESTJ

Although they don’t have many similarities, these two can make great partners in the long run.

Both favor routine and stability, so they will enjoy having mutual long-term goals.

But they might have a hard time connecting through casual chat. ESTJ is very practical and realistic, while INTJ is abstract and imaginative. So while ESTJ might be focused on concrete facts and experiences, INTJ will go way beyond searching for deeper meanings.

INTJ & ENFJ

Together, these two personality types can grow in every mean possible.

They both share a love for exploring concepts and philosophical questions. They both also focus on long-term goals in their lives.

In INTJ’s eyes, ENFJ has strong emotional power. For ENFJ, INTJ is someone with a very strategic mindset and strong individuality.

The problem between them arises in their decision-making.

ENFJ takes interpersonal components into equations, which INTJ finds as too people-pleasing.

On the other hand, INTJ is focused on logic and personal components, which ENFJ finds selfish.

INTJ & INFJ

Given that INFJ is the rarest personality type, and INTJ is slightly above it, this is not a common match.

But these two make a really good match, as they are drawn more to abstract ideas rather than obvious reality.

However, the differences between them are noticeable.

When making a decision, INFJs take into consideration the people around them, while INTJs rely more on logical factors.

This can be a reason for disagreement. But they can also use that situation to learn from one another.

INFJ can teach INTJ to see the personal effects of their choices. On the other hand, INTJ can help INFJ gain a more logical perspective when dealing with problems.

INTJ & INFP

INTJ and INFP can have a really strong connection.

They’re both introverts who enjoy their personal time, so they can understand when the other one needs time alone.

The difference between them mainly lies in their thinking and feeling functions. This can cause a heated disagreement between an INTJ and INFP.

INTJ may think that INFP is overly sensitive while ignoring facts. And the other way around, INFP may find INTJ to be detached from their personal needs.

But they can also learn from these differences. INFP can help INTJ explore their emotional needs. And likewise, INTJ can help INFP develop an action plan to carry out their ideas.

INTJ & ENFP

Both INTJ and ENFP love discussing ideas and concepts, so they can enjoy each other company quite a lot.

ENFP’s charisma and creative beauty, together with INTJ’s focus and intellectual boldness, make a great team.

INTJ can help ENFP stay effective and motivated, while ENFP can help INTJ gain a different perspective on the subject.

The main reason for conflict between these two lies in the way they make decisions. INTJ is more focused on logic, while ENFP takes into consideration how it will affect people around them. To solve that, it’s important they have their values clear with one another from the start.

INTJ & ISTP

At first glance, INTJ and ISTP can appear quite alike. They’re curious, rational, and rather reserved in social interactions, so they have ample common ground. Even when they have opposite views, they tend to complement each other well.

In many cases, these two MBTI types start as friends and develop a romantic relationship later.

The problem in personal relationships between INTJ and ISTP comes from the difficulty to develop an emotional connection. While ISTPs are hard to read, INTJs are even harder. It’s important that these two types share their true feelings, no matter how difficult they’re to communicate.

INTJ & ESTP

This is a rather interesting match.

These two personalities are attracted to each other because one has something the other doesn’t.

To INTJ, ESTP is very practical, enthusiastic, and sharp-witted. ESTP, on the other hand, finds INTJ to be very strategic and visionary.

Together, these two can make great things, as they provide the perfect balance to one another.

INTJ can help an ESTP see the bigger picture, while ESTP can teach INTJ to be present in the moment.

The differences between INTJ and ESTP can cause problems in communication. But as long as they’re direct in expressing their opinion, they shouldn’t have issues.

INTJ & ISFP

ISFP has that appealing pragmatism to an INTJ. And similarly, ISFP can find INTJ’s wisdom and efficiency very alluring.

Both personalities are introverted and need time alone.

But they’re actually rather different at heart. So, their introverted personalities come in the way of expressing emotions.

ISFP may appear very sensitive and partial to an INTJ. Likewise, ISFP often thinks that INTJ is too blunt and impersonal.

INTJ & ISFJ

couple arguing

Somewhat of an uncommon match, but that doesn’t mean they can’t work well together.

Both of these types enjoy a calm and organized daily life. As introverts, they understand that the other person might need some peaceful time alone. Their daily routines are rather aligned, so they can spend some quality time together.

However, communication issues are not unusual.

That’s because ISFJ is very literal, while INTJ is as abstract as it can be. And while INTJ might think they’re as obvious as they can be, there’s a pretty good chance ISFJ won’t understand them.

For INTJ, ISFJ is being very emotional and a bit unpredictable. And for INTJ, ISFJ is sometimes too detached from emotion.

INTJ & ESFJ

These two are total opposites, which often affects their communication.

ESFJ responds emotionally to things around them, while INTJ analyzes things before reacting.

Between the two, it’s clear that ESFJ takes criticism close to heart. On the other hand, INTJ has a much harder time expressing and articulating their feelings.

But these two can learn a great deal from one another.

INTJ can help ESFJ define its goals and follow up with them. And likewise, ESFJ can help INTJ feel more comfortable when around people.

INTJs in Relationships

INTJs are very loyal to their romantic partner, but they enjoy independence. This means they want to have a certain time of the day for themselves. And they expect their partner to respect and understand that.

However, given that INTJs aren’t big on displaying emotions, they can be difficult to read. Therefore, they might not always find the comprehension they expect from their significant other.

Interestingly enough, INTJs do great in relationships with opposite personality types.

While they have little in common with types like ENTJ, INFP, or ENFP, they’re very efficient together. The two balance each other lovely and push to be better.

INTJs have a great deal of respect for these personality types. Even though they have many differences, INTJ sees potential in learning from their perspectives.

INTJ as Friends

INTJs might not make a friendship easily. But once they find the special ones, they’re very loyal to them. That’s true even if the friend is an oversensitive ISFP that bursts into tears for criticism. An INTJ will defend their ISFP friend to the very end from anyone that hurts them.

As friends, INTJs are compatible with intuitive-judging personality types. These are other INTJs, as well as ENTJs, ENFJs, and ENTJs.

These personality types are all very creative yet like sticking to plans. That’s why they’ll easily agree on the activity they want to enjoy together.

Going to movies?

Great idea! Let’s schedule for the 13th of the next month.

INTJs, like these types, hate change, so please, no last-minute cancelations.

INTJs at Work

Their natural creativity and excellent plan-making skills really shine in a work environment. Given they’re able to see the bigger picture, INTJs can easily see the potential for improvement.

Given they’re very independent, INTJs prefer working solo to working in a group.

They live by the proverb –  it is better to do something oneself than to rely on others to do it well.

And that doesn’t just involve INTJ’s coworkers, but also managers and bosses.

If an INTJ thinks that the manager is wrong, they won’t fret about telling them to their faces. This, however, might not always work out well for them, given their bluntness.

At work, INTJs work best with ENTJs. They’re both rational and want to get the work done in the most efficient manner possible.

To Sum Things Up

As you can see, INTJs are more compatible with personalities they don’t have many in common with. (Yes, even with extroverts!)

That’s because INTJs like intellectual stimulation and being challenged to be better. Different perspectives can help them with that.
